This particular morning, just like every other morning I parked my car on the church car park and made my way to work … there was nothing special about that day, neither sunshine nor rain, it was bland! Maybe I was praying when suddenly a golden jewel encrusted cup was thrust towards me and a sense of words saying “take it – it’s for you”. I felt my knees buckle, maybe I should drop to the grey concrete, but carried on walking gazing upon the spiritual encounter, the cup of the new wine held there in front of me. A deep sense of knowing that to drink of “this cup” all other cups would need to be forsaken.
So I guess this painting provokes a challenge to acknowledge the cups we are drinking from that are in conflict to the cup of the new wine poured out for us by our Lord Jesus. It is also encouraging that as we choose to leave behind these other things that grab our hearts and attention that there is something new, profound and powerful that will open us for us … so come on “take it, it’s for you”.
