“To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified” (Isaiah 61:3)

I just fell in love with Dame Margot Fonteyn, the more photos and videos I saw caused me to become encaptivated by the manner in which her beautiful soul radiated through her dance; it was hard to explain how her whole body spoke to me of this loveliness … from the poise of her feet to tips of her fingers. Hours upon hours of practice and hard work made her a world class technician of ballet, yet what I also glimpsed was an other-worldly explosion in the atmosphere around her of something alive, magnificent, sublime, that kept me transfixed.

Sat on a bed at the Premier Inn during a few days break I felt so tired, not just tired but weary … sound familiar maybe to some! The thought of attending a praise and worship evening Called “Loved to Worship” the following Saturday felt like an impossibility and I was already working on a good reason not to go. So no one was more surprised than me when the following Saturday came around I was stood up at the front of church with a canvas and brushes, painting live as the band filled the auditorium with music. Looking back I was clearly moved by a force much greater than myself to bring such a change of heart in a few days, and stirring up in me a gift that had laid dormant for so long. So it was at this music event in March 2024 that the first of many prophetic paintings came into being; life and colour flowing through my paintbrush from heaven’s chambers; making marks on canvas poured out from the presence of God. Hence, I returned to pencil drawing and paintings using the medium of acrylic on canvas … this was after a break of over forty years. I rec-connected a fresh through creativity to “beautiful things” and the excitement and childlike wonder that had laid dormant. I had always been awestruck by the beauty in the world around me; whether that be a breezy day at the seaside; a bubbling stream in the woods; the freedom of a bird flying or someone losing themselves within music and movement – and now I have been able to capture some small part of this through my art.
